With the worldwide use of smartphones estimated to reach 2.00 billion people by the end of 2016, it is becoming more important than ever that you offer potential mobile customers easy access to your website. When I opened an email last week from Google addressed to The Webmaster of one of the domain names we manage, it became clear just how important a good mobile presence has become.
Last Tuesday Google released a major update to its mobile search algorithm that will begin to favor mobile-friendly websites by ranking them higher in searches than their non-mobile friendly competitors. Mobile-friendly sites feature responsive layouts that resize themselves to fit on any mobile device.
This change means that millions of websites could find themselves slipping in their organic search ranking, and is being referred to as “mobile-geddon” by the media. Small business is seen as being the most heavily impacted by this change, as they might not know about the change, or could lack the resources to update their web presence.
